The importance of knowing and building confidence in the skills, behaviours and strengths you need to succeed and be happy
As parents, what is one of the greatest gifts we can give our children?
Helping them to navigate the world of work!
With all the discussions about AI and ChatGPT taking away many jobs, we need to ensure our children are fully aware of their strengths and their contribution so they are agile in this fast-paced, changing world.
Here are some of the key pain points we hear from the parents we work with:-
This is why we have curated our Flying Start XP ‘How To’ Series of 4 books, supporting school leavers and graduates in how to stand out and follow a path that will lead them to success and happiness.
‘What do you want to do?’
This is a question we continue to ask our young adults.
If you think about it, answering this question has become even harder, especially when you consider the rate of change in the workplace we’re currently seeing with the changes that AI brings.
And as Sir Anthony Seldon said at a recent conference on Education and AI said:
‘Our schools in 2023 are preparing our young people brilliantly……..for the 20th Century’
How can we prepare our young adults for the world of work, so they can navigate it and thrive?
At Flying Start XP, we have always believed that self-awareness is key for success.
It is clear that the future of work is changing and we need to ensure our young adults are equipped with the skills needed to be agile and flexible, have critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and have the ability to adapt their behaviours to build strong relationships.
AI is coming, we know that. Humans are still needed to make connections, see patterns, to be innovative.
Did you know that ‘AI will automate 7 million jobs over the next 20 years?’ This is a statistic shared by PwC back in 2019.
The good news is, they also revealed that AI will also create 7.2 million jobs. Surely that’s exciting.
In a more recent quote by McKinsey and Company, they said that ‘we will experience more technological progress in the company decade that we did in the preceding 100 years put together’ So we’re in for a fun ride.
Helping our young adults navigate this overwhelm that can be the future of work is our responsibility.
The exercises within these books can help teachers, schools and universities: –
“This is perfect for my son to support him at the moment”
“Not knowing how to support my daughter is hard, I have no idea about the world of work at the moment for this age group”
Two comments I heard from parents at a recent networking event. And these are not the only things we hear from parents with children of school leaver to graduate ages.
👉 I need an expert on employability who can talk to my son/daughter
👉 My son/daughter is at University and doesn’t seem to have a focus on the future
👉 I am worried they will miss out on opportunities
👉 They have no idea what they want to do, and I don’t know the best way to support them
👉 The job market has changed so much, and I feel ill-equipped to give advice
Helping parents understand how we can support our sons/daughters in the next steps by ensuring they have confidence in who they are and what they do, knowing their strengths and superpowers, and how that contributes and adds value to a company.
Because we have been busy with our work with individuals, teams and organisations, through our sister company TLRdynamics, we have had less time to spend in schools and working with our 1:1 clients. This is why we have created the FSXP ‘How To Series’ – a set of books to support school leavers and graduates in navigating their next steps into the world of work.
If you are a parent, a teacher, or a young adult, we gift you our knowledge and activities to help you thrive wherever your next steps take you.
